Keeping Your Computer Clean

Keeping your computer clean and running smoothly can be as easy as some regular maintenance & serviceing from GTECH or done by yourself at home.

  1. Keep your startups to a minimum. If a piece of software asks you if you wish to start it on bootup say no.
  2. Keep your AntiVirus Up-to-date. We recommend AVG or the basic Norton AntiVirus. Stay away from Norton Internet Security, Norton 360, and any other All in one AntiVirus program... they are resource hogs and you usually don't need the extras.
  3. Reset your Internet Explorer. This can be done through your TOOLS-Options menu. It is also recommended to restrain from installing toolbars, they will slow you down.
  4. Blow the Dust Bunnies out of your tower. You must disconnect the power from your computer, and remove cover. Do not use a vacuum, we recommend a shop air compressor or a product like "Dust-Off", compressed air canisters. Careful not to get anything wet inside your computer.
  5. Defrag your hard drive. This is recommended once every 2-3 months. You can do this with the built-in Windows utility.
  6. Empty your Recycle bin & Temporary files. Windows also has a handy tool for this called Disk Cleanup.
